Sociodemographic characterization of children with specific learning disorders
Caracterización sociodemográfica de niños con trastornos específicos del aprendizaje

A population of children with specific learning disorders was characterized in a socio-demographic manner by means of a transversal-descriptive-quantitative study. Small children participated in the study who, at the time,
were coursing fourth to seventh grade at three different educational centers in Manta, Ecuador. Data were obtained from teacher reports, psychological evaluation reports and reports on school performance. Descriptive statistic tests were used. 13.2% of the children showed specific learning disorders, with different levels of intensity; 14.3% showed difficulties for mathematical reasoning; 37.8% showed difficulties for reading; 19.4% showed difficulties for writing; and 28.6% showed difficulties in more than one academic area. These results highlight the significance of the problem.
