Criminal Behaviour and Mental Disorder: Forensic Assessment in Spanish Perpetrators in the Last Decade
Comportamiento delictivo y trastorno mental: valoración forense en victimarios españoles en la última década
Main Article Content
Studies in the field of forensic psychology confirm that crime has a multicausal origin, which is why it is essential to study risk factors comprehensively. There is a higher level of criminal danger associated with having a mental disorder. The aims of this study focused on determining the existence of differences in the commission of criminal offenses according to the presence or absence of a mental disorder, as well as on the assessment of personality characteristics in gender violence offences, and differences based on sex and age. This study involved 127 subjects (X̄ = 39.26 years, SD = 11.880) belonging to a forensic sample was carried out between 2010 and 2020. We confirmed in the forensic sample the existence of statistically significant differences in criminal offending according to sex and disorder in this type of valuation. Males were charged with a greater number of crimes with the exception of domestic violence. People with and without mental disorders were associated with different types of crime with differences between the different groups of disorders. In addition, the involvement of intrinsic personality factors in perpetrators of gender violence was found. It is advisable to study in depth the factors involved in criminal behaviour in relation to possible diagnoses of mental health and personality disorder.
