Bibliographic review on well-being in retired older adults
Revisión bibliográfica sobre el bienestar en adultos mayores jubilados
Main Article Content
The objective of this research was to review the bibliographical and research production between 2004 and 2016 in which the study of well-being in older retired adults was addressed. This with the intention of broadening, updating and contrasting previously existing data with the new advancements, to make it possible to contribute to the design of policies and interventions directed towards the improvement of the quality of life of this vulnerable population group. This documentary research was conducted on EBSCO database using the sentence: wellbeing and retirement. The review was done in two consecutive stages, a search stage and an analysis stage. The first one included the previous reading, selection and storing of documents; 100 relevant studies, some newspaper articles and books were included. The analysis stage included tasks such as translation to Spanish, review, summarizing, categorization and writing. Studies were found which related wellbeing to preparation; early retirement; termination of employment; caring for the physical, social, mental, financial and spiritual health; vulnerability situations; preparation for old age; as well as some others in which cases that call for refusal to retirement are analyzed. The most studied topic was physical health care, followed by previous preparation. Few studies on preparation for old age and vulnerability situations in retirement were found. The research concludes pointing out that the data found and the analysis that was carried out can contribute to the creation of strategies that promote the improvement of wellbeing in this specific population group, and that promote the creation of new policies and social-educational and psycho-educational interventions.
