The Revista Iberoamericana de Psicología adheres to the guidelines of https://www.um.es/ead/red/etica_cope.pdf regarding commitments for editors, reviewers, and authors. Based on this, it defines the following:
Commitments and Responsibilities of Authors
- As a way of ensuring the moral ownership of their authorship, authors have the right to preserve their name and have it recognized in the citation and referencing of their work.
- Authors guarantee that the work is original, that it does not contain unreferenced portions of other works they have authored, nor fragments of works already published by other authors. They also guarantee that the data and results presented are accurate and have not been altered.
- The author guarantees that the results presented have not been published in another scientific journal
- All articles must include a section detailing the ethical considerations and actions implemented during the study and manuscript preparation. This section must explain how to address issues related to informed consent and assent, treatment of the study population, permissions for the use of instruments, handling of collected information and processing of personal data, guarantees of safety and benefit for participants, commitments to participating stakeholders, and the ethical management of the work dynamics surrounding the research and manuscript production processes
- All manuscripts must include a reference to the national and international regulations governing research and the processing of data and results derived from the study. For research conducted in the Colombian context, it will be necessary to specify, in accordance with the provisions of Resolution 8430 of 1993 from the Ministry of Health, the level of risk (no risk, minimal risk, or greater than minimal risk) along with the actions implemented for its control or mitigation, as well as compliance with the Ethics, Bioethics, and Scientific Integrity Policy of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias) (2017). For research conducted in international contexts, compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki (2024) of the World Medical Association, the APA Code of Ethics (2017) or its updated version, and the CIOMS Guidelines (2016) for biomedical research must be explicitly stated, as well as any local legislation applicable to the specific context in which the research is conducted
- For research with minimal or greater than minimal risk, approval from a Research Ethics Committee is mandatory. The ethical considerations section must explicitly include: the specific identification of psychological, physical, or social risks to participants; the mitigation measures implemented; the protocol for suspending research in the event of adverse effects; the availability of post-research psychological or medical care; and the institutional commitment to provide compensation for direct damages resulting from the research. The journal's editorial committee reserves the right to request a copy of the official opinion issued by the ethics committee that approved the research reported in the articles submitted to the journal, as well as to verify the authenticity of said document with the issuing institution.
- For research in the Colombian context involving vulnerable populations (minors, people with disabilities, marginalized groups, pregnant women, or communities), compliance with the specific safeguards established in Chapters II-V of Resolution 8430 of 1993 must be explicitly stated. In international contexts, the equivalent APA and CIOMS standards for the protection of vulnerable populations will apply, including assessment of decision-making capacity, prevention of exploitation, and guarantees against stigmatization, as well as local legislation applicable to the specific context in which the research is conducted.
- Beyond regulatory compliance, authors must explicitly state in their ethical considerations the actions taken to ensure the social responsibility of the knowledge generated. This includes: providing results to participants and communities involved in accessible language; transferring knowledge through training, workshops, or educational materials that benefit participating populations; empowering communities through active participation in the design, implementation, or interpretation of the research; and making a tangible contribution to solving identified local problems. For research in communities or with historically marginalized groups, it must be made clear how it was ensured that the benefits of the research would have a positive impact on them and not just on academic advancement.
- For clinical trials, prior registration in a public database (ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO ICTRP, EU Clinical Trials Register, or similar), registration number, and study phase, if applicable, must be indicated, in accordance with the standards of the Declaration of Helsinki and Resolution 8430 of 1993, as appropriate.
- The authors guarantee the inclusion of only those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the planning, development, and writing of the work. The order of authorship is based on responsibility and involvement in its development.
- All authors are required to explicitly declare in the article's cover letter that there are no conflicts of interest. They must also indicate any funding from agencies and/or projects that contributed to the research article.
- Use of artificial intelligence: Authors who use artificial intelligence tools (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, or similar) must explicitly declare this in the cover letter, specifying which tool was used and at what stage of the process (style review, grammar correction, clarity enhancement). The use of AI is limited exclusively to supporting review tasks.
- Use of Artificial Intelligence: Authors who use artificial intelligence tools (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, or similar) must explicitly declare this in the cover letter, specifying which tool was used and at what stage of the process (style review, grammar correction, clarity improvement). The use of AI is limited exclusively to supporting the review of style, grammar, spelling, and clarity of the text. Under no circumstances will authorship be attributed to artificial intelligence systems, nor will the use of AI be permitted for data generation, statistical analysis, interpretation of results, methodological design, or drafting of original sections of the manuscript (introduction, theoretical framework, methodology, discussion, conclusions). Authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, validity of the content, and ethical compliance of the research. The editorial committee may request clarification regarding the use of AI if it detects inconsistencies in the text.
- Authors must notify the journal of any errors or inaccuracies in the published manuscript. Once this notification is received, the journal editors will make the necessary adjustments.
- Corrections and Retractions Policy: The journal follows COPE standards for error management. Minor corrections (errata) are published for typographical or data errors that do not affect the conclusions. Significant corrections (corrigendum) apply to errors that partially affect the conclusions. Retractions are published for unreliable findings, plagiarism, duplication, fraud in research involving human subjects, or serious methodological errors that invalidate the work. Authors may request a voluntary retraction; the journal may unilaterally retract if the authors do not cooperate. Retractions remain accessible, marked as "Retracted," to preserve the integrity of the scientific record.
- Authors may request, in defense of their rights against the evident misuse of their work, the preservation of their name, the withdrawal of the published or in-transit work, or modification of the acknowledgments, provided that the specific circumstances giving rise to such action are argued and the necessary and sufficient evidence for addressing the case is presented.
Reviewer Commitments
- Reviewers should only review a manuscript if there are no conflicts of interest.
- Reviewers commit to conducting a critical, honest, and unbiased review of both the formal and substantive aspects of the manuscript.
- Each assigned manuscript must be treated as confidential. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed or disclosed to others without the express consent of the editors.
- Reviewers will submit a report using the Journal's article evaluation form. They may also notify the editors if parts of the work have already been published elsewhere or are under review by another journal.
- Reviewers commit to evaluating submissions within the shortest possible time (15 business days). If a reviewer is unable to complete their task within the scheduled timeframe, they will notify the editors so that the deadline for submitting the report (90 days) stipulated in the Journal's policies is met.
- Reviewers may suggest and accurately indicate adjustments and specific works or bibliographic references that authors may review and include in the text.
- Use of Artificial Intelligence: Reviewers will not use artificial intelligence tools to generate their evaluation reports, nor to replace their critical and expert judgment regarding the scientific and ethical quality of the manuscript. The use of AI is limited exclusively to style editing in their own communications with the journal, information verification, and never for the substantive evaluation of the work. Reviewers are responsible for the originality and accuracy of their reports.
Editors' Commitments
- The editors will ensure the selection of the most qualified reviewers.
- The R.I.P. editorial team will select the reviewers it deems necessary for each submission (no fewer than two) to ensure rigor and objectivity in the evaluations.
- The editors and editorial team members agree not to disclose information related to articles under review to anyone other than authors, reviewers, and editors.
- The editors are responsible for meeting the deadlines for reviews and publishing accepted submissions (maximum 90 days).
- The editors agree not to use the content of submitted articles in their own research without the author's explicit consent.
- The editors' actions will be aligned with the international ethical standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) http://www.apa.org/ethics/code/index.aspx and with the Ethics Policy of the Colombian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias) https://minciencias.gov.co/sites/default/files/upload/noticias/politica-etica.pdf.
- Use of artificial intelligence: The editors will not use artificial intelligence tools to make final editorial decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts. Editorial decisions will be based on the expert judgment of the Editorial Committee and the evaluations of specialized reviewers.
- The editors' actions will be aligned with the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors, the international ethical standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) http://www.apa.org/ethics/code/index.aspx and the Ethics, Bioethics and Scientific Integrity Policy (2017) of Minciencias, Colombia.
