La complejidad de la violencia contra la pareja (VCP) requiere investigar las características de los maltratadores. Esta investigación explora la interrelación entre la agresión desplazada (AD) y otros constructos de interés, en hombres que están en prisión por un delito de VCP. Específicamente, el objetivo del estudio es identificar perfiles latentes en función de la AD y compararlos en rumia en ira (RI), deseabilidad social (DS), apego adulto (AA) y regulación emocional cognitiva (REC). Participaron 196 maltratadores (M = 41.2 años, DT = 11.2) que estaban cumpliendo condena en España. Como resultado se han identificado tres perfiles de maltratadores (AD-Alta, AD-Media y AD-Baja) según las puntuaciones obtenidas en el Cuestionario de Agresión Desplazada. Estos perfiles son coherentes con las puntuaciones obtenidas en la Escala de RI. Además, los grupos de AD-Alta y AD-Media puntuaron más que el de AD-Baja en las dimensiones de Baja autoestima y Rencor/posesividad de AA y en la estrategia de REC Culpar a otros. En cambio, el grupo de AD-Baja puntuó más en DS y en la expresión de sentimientos de AA que los otros dos grupos. Finalmente, los grupos de AD-Alta y AD-Media eran muy similares en RI, DS, AA y REC. Se concluye que la DS puede influir en la autoevaluación de la AD y que determinadas variables (Catastrofismo, Culpar a otros, Baja autoestima, Rencor/posesividad y Autosuficiencia emocional) son relevantes en la AD. Se pone de relieve la utilidad del AA y la REC en la intervención terapéutica con hombres que ejercen VCP.
