Effect of a Neuropsychological Rehabilitation Program of Executive Functioning in a Case with Mild Neurocognitive Disorder due to OSAHS
Efecto de un Programa de Rehabilitación Neuropsicológica del Funcionamiento Ejecutivo en Un Caso con Trastorno Neurocognitivo Leve debido a SAHOS
Main Article Content
Neuropsychological rehabilitation of patients with obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea (OSAHS) is poorly documented, however, the sequelae of this disease are widely known, as it affects different spheres of the sufferer, including cognitive functions such as attention, memory, language and executive functions, hence the importance of neuropsychological intervention. The objective of this research was to establish the effect of a neuropsychological rehabilitation program of executive functions to improve functionality in a single case of minor neurocognitive disorder due to OSAHS.
He is a 51-year-old male patient, high school graduate, diagnosed with Mild Neurocognitive Disorder due to OSAHS: Severe Executive Dysfunction and Unspecified Anxiety Disorder. It is a single case quasi-experimental study with A-B non-reversion design, repeated measurements were performed with the instruments: BRIEF A and Hamilton's anxiety scale. The neuropsychological intervention was carried out under the Sholberg and Mateer model using activities from the Cognifit platform (40 sessions), pencil and paper tasks (6 sessions) and implementation of the therapeutic guide at home. For the analysis of the results, visual analysis and statistical methods were used such as: The percentage of non-overlapping data, the percentage of data that exceeded the median and the non-overlap of all pairs, which yielded data effectiveness of the treatment for both the patient as for the family member. No changes were evidenced on the Hamilton scale. In conclusion, the implementation of a rehabilitation program that includes a computerized platform allows improving the functionality of the patient.
