Abstract
This paper presents the results of a research that designed and implemented the Fifth Dimension Model with the children of a community in Uruguay. This Model was constituted as a collaborative work tool, based on the generation of a community of practice in which Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) were used creatively, and in which children lived a learning experience with progressive challenges. The theoretical perspective of the study integrated contributions from Historical-Cultural Psychology, Community Social Psychology and a critical perspective on the use of ICT. The qualitative methodology of the study was based on the strategy of collaborative action-research using interviews, ethnographic records and technological resources for working with children. The obtained results address the characteristics of the Model’s design, the creation of a collaborative narrative as the guiding thread of the proposal and the mediating role of the ICT provided by the Ceibal Plan. The conclusions of the study focus on the role of the creation of situated proposals based on local needs, the promotion of belonging, significant experiences and the importance of collaboration in the use of ICT in support of goals.
