Abstract

The present experience report objective to reflect on the recovery-oriented in community mental health services, identifying the challenges and strengths that will arise when working with users and their families. The reflections on the theme were based on the investigation "Recovery: Instruments for its measurement in the Brazilian reality", through the transcultural adaptation of the instrument Recovery Self-Assessment (RSA-R). In order to carry out this study, we follow the methodology of cross-cultural adaptation of instruments that includes the stages of translation, back-translation, evaluation by specialists, pilot studies with users and family members. The results of this experience were: recovery is a construct still little explored in Brazil, the instrument under investigation revealed some practices that did not exist in the Brazilian context and also emphasized the need for high levels of literacy in the participants. In contrast, our population had low levels of schooling, which made the experience even more challenging. Furthermore, from our fieldwork, we were able to identify that the relationship of family members with services is very fragile. Mental health services in the country should restructure their practices regarding the inclusion and effective participation of the family in treatment. Based on these results, we highlight the importance of evaluations of mental health services with the participation of users and families, this being a challenge in structuring systematic evaluations of public services
