Abstract

This paper is a review of findings about procrastination and basic psychological processes of motivation and memory, in order to facilitate a better understanding of procrastination from the perspective of basic processes underlying human behavior analysis. Some links between procrastination and the above basic processes are explored, considering failures and self- regulatory behavior mechanisms, and other internal and external processes to the individual threads also linked to the learning process. Due to the extent and importance of the issue, the details about the relationship between particular mechanisms of the learning process with procrastination, be left to a separate review and therefore the focus of this document was about the relationship between this behavior and processes of motivational and memory. In general, links between key components of procrastination and basic aspects of motivation and memory are evident and it is suggested the need for a broader approach and detailed look of this behavior from a basic processes analysis, which incorporate the fundamental mechanisms and sub processes in each basic process and thus facilitate a better understanding of procrastination as a complex and multi caused behavior.
