Validación de una escala de empatía para niños, niñas y adolescentes colombianos
Main Article Content
Empathy studies require addressing affective, cognitive and social processes associated with individual maturation, which allow to understand social interaction from the basic emotional dispositions. The objective of this study was to validate the scale of empathy developed by Richaud, Lemos, Mesurado and Oros (2017) in a sample of Colombian children and adolescents aged 9 to 14 years, describing their psychometric properties. To achieve this objective, three procedures were applied: first, construct validity and reliability; second, the convergent validity, using the IRI scales (Davis, 1983) of empathy and prosociality from Caprara and Pastorelli (1993); third, comparisons of invariance by age and sex were established in the Colombian sample. The results showed good construct validity indices (Chi square / fd = 1.72; GFI = 0.96; AGFI = 0.95, CFI = 0.94 and IFI = 0.94). The validated scale showed good correlation indexes with IRI taking perspective dimension (0.122; p <0.001) and the Caprara and Pastorelli scale (0.204; p <0.001). The level of error tested was acceptable (RMR = 0.00 and RMSEA = 0.03). These indices proved that the five-factor structure scale proposed by Richaud, Lemos, Mesurado and Oros (2017) is confirmed in the Colombian sample. The results indicated that the scale is not invariable through sex (∆CFI = 0.03) but is confirmed through age (∆CFI = 0.00). The validated scale is appropriate to measure the empathy variable in the Colombian sample.
