Abstract
The aim of this study applied a descriptive and correlational study was to determine the level of burnout syndrome in academics from the Faculty of Education, a private university in Bogotá, and to establish the relationship between the level variables of gender and seniority labor, as well as coping strategies commonly used by them. Will be undertaken with the voluntary cooperation of a representative sample, were applied to those two instruments: Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) developed by Maslach and Jackson in 1981, and the multidimensional scale for assessment of general coping styles (COPE) developed by Carver, Scheier and Weintraub (1989). The syndrome is low level for the categories of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and middle for personal achievement. The statistical relationships were not significant for gender, seniority and coping strategies. Were established as coping styles used: personal
development, problem solving, planning and positive reappraisal, and a greater number of high scores in emotional exhaustion and professional women.
