Abstract

In recent decades, the concept of humility has gained relevance. Three types of humility have been identified: cultural, relational, and intellectual. Intellectual humility involves a non-threatening awareness of one's own fallibility in relation to one's knowledge. The aim of this study was to adapt the Comprehensive Intellectual Humility Scale (CIHS) into Spanish and provide evidence of its psychometric performance. Method: Independent translations were conducted following the direct translation method (from English to Spanish). Necessary changes were made to items as required. A pilot test was designed, and then online administration was carried out with 224 psychologists. Total and subscale internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The scale's dimensionality was assessed through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Convergent validity was assessed using the Grandiosity and Impulsivity facets of the reduced and modified version of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5. Results: Reliability coefficients were adequate for the total scale (α = 0.79). Overall reliability for each dimension was acceptable, ranging from α = 0.58 to α = 0.78. The fit of the original four-dimensional model was satisfactory (X2 = 128.608, df = 146, p = 0.050, CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.97, RMSEA = 0.02, SRMR = 0.07), with standardized coefficients above 0.30 for all items. Intellectual humility was negatively associated with the impulsivity and grandiosity facets. Conclusion: The scale has the potential to be applied in the Argentine context, both in the scientific and practical realms.
