Lima Internet Addiction Scale (LIAS): Psychometric analysis
Escala de Adicción al Internet de Lima (EAIL): Análisis psicométrico
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of Lima’s Internet Addiction Scale (LIAS). The scale was applied to 110 high-school students from a public educational institution in the city of Bogotá,
who were distributed among 6th and 11th grades. Three procedures were used to validate the scale’s psychometric properties: first, Cronbach's alpha was calculated to establish the reliability of the test; second,
an exploratory factor analysis was carried out to determine internal validity; finally, a commonality analysis was done to establish item-test correlations. The results show a reliability index of 0.798 and the presence
of two dimensions that explain 47.7% of the total variance, even though there were inconsistencies in the factorial load of items 2 and 11. Based on the results, it can be affirmed that the use of LIAS on students from Bogota may be appropriate, although it is recommended that further studies be carried out in order to establish solutions to the differences found in the analysis.
