16 personality factors in university students of the psychology career at a University in western Mexico, and their relationship with sex and generational cohort

Introduction: The personality has been the object of study and the approach through psychological tests has been the most useful means, due to its important contributions to the understanding of individual differences, factors such as coping, academic performance, Cognitive attitude and professional performance are members of the personality and at the same time are elements that reflect it. In previous studies, the presence of characteristic psychological factors has been reported in psychology students, which have a predictive value in their behavior. Objective: Describe the personality factors associated with students in the psychology career. Method: A total of 141 students (88 women) from the 8 semesters of the psychology degree at a public university in western Mexico participated in the study. The 16 personality factors test (16FP) was used and the resulting average profiles were compared against the reference population values, by gender, among others, between the first and last semesters. Results: The presence of distinctive personality factors of psychology students was identified, in addition, significant differences by sex and generational cohort could be observed. Conclusions: The presence of personality factors related to social norms and emotional instability are common in psychology students.
