Resumo
Comportamentos de risco ou de proteção contra doenças virais podem ser influenciados pela forma como as pessoas constroem os conhecimentos sobre esta realidade, e tais conhecimentos são fundamentais para entender como as pessoas agem em situações que representam riscos à sua saúde. Este estudo avalia o papel dos processos cognitivos, tais como preconceitos ou crenças falsas, intenção comportamental e crenças de eficácia em relação à doença COVID-19, procurando determinar sua influência sobre os comportamentos de proteção, incluindo a probabilidade de vacinação. Um estudo de previsão transversal avaliou 794 pessoas na Colômbia durante o primeiro pico pandêmico em 2020, utilizando questionários online e modelos de regressão construídos para prever comportamentos de proteção recomendados pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (lavagem de mãos, isolamento social, uso de máscaras). As descobertas indicam altas freqüências de viés de controle e otimismo ilusório, bem como altas expectativas de eficácia dos cuidados, que prevêem comportamentos de proteção e intenção de vacinar. Pelos resultados, argumenta-se que os preconceitos de otimismo não implicam necessariamente em assumir comportamentos de exposição a doenças, na verdade, eles parecem ter um papel funcional no cuidado.
